5 free design tools that will help you get started in design.

Hey, what’s up! I’m Ben, the guy who created interfacer and also the one who’ll be writing on this blog ;)

Well, today I made a small list of free tools that might help you to get started or maybe even get better at Design. And for all of you hardcore print designers that are reading this, this is not for you! Even though the title says “Design” I’m talking about digital design, so hope you understand and don’t curse me :P

Here’s a list of free tools/resources that I use every day or think is very cool.

Figma

Figma

I’ve been using Figma for almost 2 months now. If you don’t know what Figma is, it’s a design tool used to create wireframes and mockups. Before Figma, I was using another tool which was called “Gravit Design”, it was pretty cool but I don’t use it anymore. The best thing about Figma is, It’s Free and it’s online. Everything you design is stored in the cloud so you don’t have to worry about losing any files. And the tool is very fast. So if you’re using something else, I recommend you start using this.

BTW check this cool thing out - http://madebyevan.com/webgl-water/, it’s made by one of the creators of Figma and he’s super cool.

Check it out

Humaaans

Humaaans

Humaaans is a collection of Free Illustrations of People created by Pablo Stanly , who’s a really really cool dude!! The best thing about this is it’s a design library, which means you aren’t stuck with a single illustration. You can mix different illustrations with each other. Imagine lego blocks, it lets you build almost anything by attaching different blocks to each other, this design library does the same by letting you build any kind of human body by mixing SVG components. Use it, you might love it.

UI Sounds

UI Sounds

UI sounds is a collection of UI sounds used by some popular apps. This is run by my friend Graeme, he’s been into sound design for a while not sure how long though. The reason this is on the list is that sound and design are kind of interlinked with each other. Both can exist without each other but when they are combined they can be really powerful in conveying a message and altering emotional states of a person. So, I urge you to try this.

Drawkit

Drawkit

Almost similar to Humaaans, Drawkit is a collection of free to use illustrations. It follows the principle of components. It’s created by my friend James Daly, who’s been working on it for a while now. It’s got a ton of Illustrations, with two variations - monochrome and color, they’re very easy to customize. I also personally recommend this one if you want to spice up your website or design or whatnot.

Interfacer

Interfacer

Okay, I’m going to be shameless here. Interfacer is a collection of Free Design resources that you can use in your commercial projects. I created this 3 months ago, to put everything in one place. You can find almost anything you want here, from icons to illustrations and even mockups. I’ve been updating the site for almost every single day for the last 3 months (you’re welcome) and it’s almost at 270+ free design resources. That’s a lot of free stuff you’ll have access to.

Well, that’s it for now. I might update this post or create a new post with other things. Few things before you leave -

  • If you have any suggestions send me a mail at ben@interfacer.xyz
  • Share this with your friends, if you don’t who will? ;)

See you soon next week with another post. Have a great day!
